About ACF
Angolan Cultural Foundation
ACF - BACKGROUND
ACF is a non-political, charitable organisation based in London (UK). It was founded in 2004 by a group of overseas Angolans to promote the ideals of solidarity and social justice bringing together Angolans and those of Angolan descent spread across Europe and the world . the signing of the peace accord in Lwena in 2002, brought decades of conflit to an end. Angola entered a new era, moving from a state of emergency to a new period of national development.
All Angolans, perhaps particularly those outside the country, feel a great necessity to participate in the process of peace consolidation and national reconstruction. This is the context in which ACF operates. The United Nations (UN) has said that the most urgent needs in Angola are progressively being resolved. Nevertheless, there are still many challenges in the areas of infrastructure development, access to health and education, creation of employment and reintegration of displaced people. Resolution of these issues requires the work of many parties, both within Angola and abroad, including non-governmental organisations, such as ACF.
OBJECTIVES
ACF is fully committed to increasing understanding between Diaspora Angolans and other communities, through social and educational events in schools, community centres and other venues. ACF is also working with organisations in Angola, such as orphanages and other charities, to promote sustainable development. ACF works with all people of good will, and in particular involves overseas Angolans in its projects.
GOALS:
1- To keep alive the ‘Angolano’ spirit among the Angolans of the Diaspora.

CONTEXT OF ACF PROJECTS
ACF’s basic aims are aligned with the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) identified by UN members, including Angola. These objectives are all related to the alleviation of poverty and the UN states that achieving them will require global action and solidarity between nations and individuals.

ACF’s Infrastructure:
The organisation does not have premises as a base for its operations and regular management meetings and uses one of members address as its official address. All activities are run by volunteers who are recruited from within the community for different events. Internationally, ACF delivers its work through its partner organisations in Portugal ( MTA and Jovens Sem Fronteiras) and in Angola (Mwenho-Ukola/The Holy Life Girls Orphanage).
At present we are in the process of creating a play which illustrates the 8 millennium goals through focusing on Angola. We intend to perform the play both in Portuguese and English using volunteer actors recruited, if possible, from people living in the borough of Camden. If we are successful in our bid for funding we will use funds to find a venue for rehearsals and performances. We will also develop presentation for school performances and to this end will contact all Camden schools to see if they would be interested in hosting us.
