Orphanage Omwenho Ukola

Dedicated to providing housing for orphaned, destitute girls in Huambo Province, in the central Angolan plateau, Omwenho ukola is a social institution of the Catholic church. Its name in the local language (Umbundu) means 'Life Is Sacred'. It was officially recognised by Father Celestino Wilala, Vice-Chancellor of Huambo Archdiocese Curia in July 2008. The center now has 36 girls aged 3 to 18 years of age. It is overseen by a Board to whom director Sister Ana Maria Francisco reports.

The running of the center is in the hands of the Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – Africa Daughter. The existence of the orphanage depends on the generosity of the general public and charitable organizations.
